Paris in 3 Days: A First-Time Visitor's Relaxed Itinerary
Share
Paris offers far more than any short trip can cover. The trick is to select a few priorities and explore one area at a time. Three days is enough for landmark views, memorable neighbourhood walks and one or two longer museum visits without making every hour feel scheduled.
Day 1: Historic Paris and the Seine
Start with a walk near the river and choose one historic area to explore. Stop for lunch in a neighbourhood that appeals to you and allow time for the streets between sights. If you want to enter a popular attraction, check the official website first for ticket requirements and opening hours.
Day 2: The Eiffel Tower area and a museum
Enjoy the Eiffel Tower from a suitable viewing area, then pick a museum based on your actual interests. The Louvre and Musée d'Orsay each deserve meaningful time rather than being treated as short photo stops. Reserve a timed ticket in advance when needed, and allow for security checks and queues.
Day 3: Montmartre or a different Paris neighbourhood
On your third day, choose a different side of the city. Montmartre is one option; the Marais, Saint-Germain-des-Prés and other neighbourhoods all offer distinct experiences. Finish with a favourite café, market or riverside walk instead of adding a far-away attraction at the last minute.
Making a short Paris visit easier
- Group places geographically, with a flexible backup for bad weather.
- Check official attraction sites rather than assuming walk-in tickets are always available.
- Plan transport using current official local information.
- Leave enough time for luggage, accommodation check-in and airport transfers.
